Guilty of mass riots in remand centre punished

A criminal case opened against initiators of the riots in the remand centre (SIZO No. 1 of the Department of the FPS of Russia in Chelyabinsk Region), as well as against a member of administrative staff of the facility, the FPS said on February 13 in response to the official appeal of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia.

The Supreme Court of Udmurtia’s panel admitted the arguments presented by the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia concerning review of an appellate complaint from convict Mr Zh in connection with the procedural order breach sufficient. The fact that the complainant’s rights have been restored became known on 13 February from the official reply of the republic’s supreme court body in response to the Commissioner’s request.

On 9 February, Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Ella Pamfilova received a reply from the Governor of Smolensk Region, which said that the finances to restore the mass graves in Bogolyubovo and Lyady villages were to be provided right after all documents were prepared. The lists of names of those who died there have been specified: more than 2.5 thousand Soviet soldiers having participated in World War II remain buried in these mass graves.

Commissioner took under control the case of pensioner from Crimea who was denied Russian citizenship

With the Russian Human Rights Commissioner’s timely stepping in, a 67 year-old Valery Komov from Feodosiya stopped his hunger strike which had jeopardised his health and life. The pensioner was explained his rights in detail. The Commissioner took the case under control to solve it and restore the infringed rights subsequently.
