Civic Chamber reminded of remand centres’ problems
On 16 February, President of the Civic Chamber Alexander Brechalov sent an official letter of appeal to President of Russia Vladimir Putin drawing his attention to the problem of remand centres in Russia. The letter says about a dramatic increase in the number of detainees in remand facilities and disastrous conditions of custody.
Confidence in institute of human rights commissioner significantly increased
The Levada Center’s opinion surveys published on 12 February showed a significant increase in the index of public confidence in the institute of the human rights commissioner in Russia. In January 2015, the index grew up to 3.11 (five-point scale) in comparison to 2.76 points for the same period last year.
