On June 10, an open event for free legal assistance took place in Saratov upon an initiative of Commissioner for Human Rights in Saratov Region Tatiana Zhurik. Representatives of 15 different authorities participated in the event.
On 9 June, Commissioner for Human Rights in Moscow Region Ekaterina Semyonova held open office hours for the public in Ruza municipal district. Representatives of the district administration, law enforcement bodies, prosecutor’s office and other officials took part in the event.
On 7 June, a working meeting to determine the procedure according to which convicts could receive additional packages for medical reasons took place in the Ivanovo Region Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia. The participants in the meeting initiated by Commissioner for Human Rights in Ivanovo Region Natalia Kovalyova held that these procedures should be made easier.
On 9 June, staff members of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia held a regular meeting with participants to the UN Russian Speaking Indigenous Fellowship Programme. This year the Office hosted guests from the Association of Indigenous people of the North, Siberia and Far East of the Russian Federation, selected by the OHCHR.
On 8 June, a large sport event the Young Athlete of the Special Olympics of Russia for children with intellectual disabilities took place in Chelyabinsk. More than a hundred people participated in the event. The event happened largely thanks to Commissioner for Human Rights in Chelyabinsk Region.
On 6 June, the library of Correctional Colony No. 9 pf the Ulyanovsk Region Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia received more than a thousand and a half books, mainly classical literature. The books have been granted to the colony within the charity project called A Book for Everyone.
On 7 June, Commissioner for Human Rights in Novosibirsk Region Nina Shalabaeva and member of the Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights Alexander Brod discussed the issues of election campaign monitoring.
On 25 May, Commissioner for Human Rights in Leningrad Region Sergey Shabanov petitioned Chairman of the Russian Government Dmitry Medvedev to remove the gaps in the legislature that stopped elevators in apartment buildings.
The Association of Indigenous People of the North, Siberia and Far East of the Russian Federation awarded Commissioner for Human Rights in Sverdlovsk Region Tatiana Merzlyakova with the public medal ‘For Fidelity to the North’. It was given for the great contribution to the development of the movement of indigenous people of the North, Siberia and Far East, the protection of their rights, natural habitat, traditional lifestyle and crafts.
