Tatiana Moskalkova held meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet

On March 5, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova held the meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet in the framework of Geneva official visit.

At the meeting participants discussed the results of human rights activities, as well as areas for further development of interaction between the Office of the High Commissioner and OHCHR in the framework of ongoing projects.

According to the federal ombudsman, in 2018 the rights of more than 184,000 citizens who asked for help in solving problems with provision of housing, providing small settlements with health centers, environmental problems, etc were restored. Assistance was also provided to foreigners who came to Russia to attend matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The High Commissioner spoke about the establishment of the Scientific and Educational Center for Human Rights in Russia, and also announced the launch of a joint project with the Council of Europe "Cooperation in the implementation of the National Strategy for Women for 2017–2022".

At the end of the meeting participants noted the importance of holding joint seminars on anti-discrimination issues. The Russian Ombudsman also supported the idea of conducting training seminars for newly authorized ombudsman officers and their employees. By prior arrangement, training is scheduled for the period of the Coordinating Council of Commissioners for Human Rights in Kazan in May.
