To: UNITED NATIONS
HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
Ms. Michelle Bachelet
Dear Ms. Bachelet,
I was alarmed to learn that Russian journalists Vyacheslav Arkhipov and Yulia Olkhovskaya were attacked by the US
Freedom of speech and security of journalists constitute core values of the democratic society, guaranteed by all major international treaties either of universal or regional levels.
I consider it to be inadmissible to use violence and counteraction against a person or a group of people on professional duty and kindly ask you, distinguished Ms. Bachelet, to bring this situation to the notice of the American authorities in order to make best efforts to prevent outrage and atrocities committed against journalists.
I look forward to continuing our fruitful cooperation for the protection of human rights and freedoms.
With kind regards and hope of your support,
High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation
