Russia will sign Council of Europe new convention to promote safety at football matches and other sports events

On 28 June, Deputy Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Natalia Parshikova said that Russia will sign the draft Council of Europe Convention on an Integrated Safety, Security and Service Approach at Football Matches and Other Sports Events.

At the last of the EURO 2016 tournament’s quarter-finals, on Sunday 3 July at the Stade de France (Saint-Denis), the Council of Europe will open for signature a new international convention to promote safety at football matches and other sports events, strengthen international police cooperation and improve dialogue between the police, local authorities, football clubs and supporters.

According to the Council of Europe, "the purpose of the Convention is to ensure that football and other sports events provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment for all individuals through the implementation of an integrated approach on safety, security and service at sports events by a plurality of actors working in a partnership amid an ethos of cooperation".
