Protection of women’s rights will become one of the areas of cooperation between the Ombudspersons of Russia and Bahrain

On November 9, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova and Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights of the Kingdom of Bahrain Ali Ahmed Alderazi signed a Protocol on interaction between the national human rights institutions for 2022.

One of the key areas of cooperation under the protocol will be the protection of women’s rights. The parties agreed to prepare a joint review of their experience of women’s rights protection in 2022.

According to the document, it is planned to hold joint events, as well as to publish a joint digest of normative legal acts regulating the activities of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation and the National Institution for Human Rights of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

In addition, the Bahrain Ombudsman is to participate in a meeting of the section on international cooperation and protection of the rights of migrants of the Expert Council under the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation.

As part of the agreement, in 2022, Mr. Alderazi will also participate as an observer in the next meeting of the Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance.

The protocol is to expand interaction between the national human rights institutions of the two countries to improve the protection of human rights and freedoms.
