High Commissioner met with Council of Europe representative

On September 25, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova met with Director of the Office of the Directorate General of Programmes of the Council of Europe Verena Taylor.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the projects launched in the framework of the High Commissioner’s cooperation with the Council of Europe, summed up the results of joint work on various human rights activities and elaborated further steps for promoting cooperation in the development of programmes aimed at improving the mechanisms for protection of human rights and freedoms.
Tatiana Moskalkova noted that joint projects give an opportunity to broaden the audience from the Russian side, invite regional Commissioners, experts in different areas to benefit from the experience of the Council of Europe and share practices in various fields.
High Commissioner emphasized the significance of the project to implement the National Strategy for Women 2017–2022. The Russian ombudswoman noted the opportunity to explore existing strategies and mechanisms of the Council of Europe to prevent family violence.
In turn, Verena Taylor invited Tatiana Moskalkova to a further dialogue in Strasbourg to develop approaches and identify further steps.
In addition, the High Commissioner noted the importance of the development and implementation of the HELP programme for regional Commissioners, as well as the need to implement the project "International Standards and Mechanisms in the Field of Human Rights for Employees of Federal and Regional Administrations of Human Rights Commissioners in the Russian Federation".
At the end of the meeting, Tatiana Moskalkova and Verena Taylor expressed the hope that the cooperation would be further strengthened.
