High Commissioner met with Ambassador of Australia to Russia

On October 11, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova met with Ambassador of Australia to the Russian Federation Peter Tesch.
Tatiana Moskalkova told about the institute of the Russian ombudsperson and its main activities. According to Peter Tesch, the State human rights institute in Russia has achieved significant results since the establishment. The Ambassador of Australia also expressed interest in the activity of the Commissioners for Human Rights in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
Parties discussed a broad human rights agenda. During the meeting, Peter Tesch highlighted common international legal issues, including ensuring the right to freedom of expression and protection of women’s rights and the rights of indigenous peoples.
The Ambassador of Australia also supported the position of the Russian ombudswoman on the decriminalization of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on extremism.
At the end of the meeting, Tatiana Moskalkova and Peter Tesch emphasized the importance of sharing experience in human rights protection. In turn, the Ambassador of Australia expressed interest in the interaction between the ombudspersons of the two countries.
