High Commissioner met Chairman of Bahrain’s Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission

On November 7, in Manama, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova met Chairman of Bahrain’s Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission Mr. Nawaf Al Moawda.

During the meeting, the Russian Ombudswoman told the head of the Commission about the measures aimed at humanizing the penal system in Russia. The High Commissioner also paid attention to the work of public monitoring commissions for the observance of human rights in places of detention.

The federal ombudswoman also spoke about the work on a draft law that will allow the release of terminally ill prisoners.

In addition, the High Commissioner's institution is carefully studying the work of the national preventive mechanism in other countries. There is no such mechanism in Russia yet.
