EOA meeting dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory

On April 29, the meeting of the Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance (EOA) dedicated to the 75th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War was held via videoconference.
The event was attended by the heads of the national human rights institutions of Armenia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Tajikistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the National Center for Human Rights in the Republic of Uzbekistan and the representative of the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia.
The Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko addressed the meeting with a welcoming speech.
The main topic of discussion was the protection of human rights and freedoms in the context of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.
High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova noted in her speech that the right to historical memory is a condition for maintaining the international human rights system.
"Protecting our historical past from falsification, we block the violation of the human right to historical memory, which is the ideological foundation of the modern human rights system," Tatiana Moskalkova said.
The Federal Ombudswoman emphasized that international organizations are calling for respect for historical truth. In her speech, the High Commissioner paid special attention to the protection and preservation of the right to historical memory in Russia.
According to the High Commissioner, such an attitude to the lessons from history is part of the identity of the Russian person.
The Federal Ombudswoman also emphasized the particular importance of protecting the rights of veterans and participants in the war.
