The High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation received an appeal from the State Duma deputy A. in the interests of P., sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in a high-security prison colony. The lawyer insisted on the non-involvement of his client in the crime committed, as well as on unlawful actions committed against P. in the place of serving the sentence.

Having familiarized herself with the materials submitted, the High Commissioner sent a request to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Trans-Baikal Territory.

According to the response received, the appeal of the Trans-Baikal regional court was canceled, the actions of P. were retrained for part 1 of Article 114 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, a punishment was imposed in the form of 10 months of imprisonment and serving in a strict-regime correctional colony. In view of the fact that the limitation period for bringing to criminal responsibility has expired, the man was released from custody.
