Right of orphaned brothers to live together restored
With the assistance of the High Commissioner, a seventeen year old teenager will be able to live with his brother in a foster family. The Social Security Department of Moscow decided to grant the request of a Moscow couple to let the two boys live in their foster care.
The Department denied the request of the large family, which has been bringing up one of the brothers since 2015, to take the second boy in foster care in spite of the brothers’ wish to live together. The situation was caused by an anonymous complaint about the family received by the competent bodies. The unknown reported that adopted children were deprived of education and had limited social contacts. Numerous inspections did not reveal any violations. Five foster children go to school or college, as well as take courses and participate in hobby groups. However, the family’s petition to take another foster child was not satisfied.
In order to protect the rights and interests of the boy, representatives of the High Commissioner took part in a special meeting, as a result of which the social security bodies allowed the brothers to live together in the foster family.
