Right to proper medical treatment protected
On 4 September, the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia received a letter of gratitude from patient B., who, with assistance of the High Commissioner’s Office staff members, had received medical treatment in due time.
Early August citizen B., an officer of the Nalchik City Directorate of the MIA of Russia, appealed to the High Commissioner. In the Medical Unit of the MIA of Russia in the Kabardino-Balkar Republic he was diagnosed with an illness requiring an urgent surgery. He received recommendations to undergo treatment in the Main Clinical Hospital of the MIA of Russia in Moscow. However, his hospitalisation had been delayed allegedly by reason of a waiting list for such treatment.
Three weeks after the High Commissioner submitted an appeal to the Вepartment of Material, Technical and Medical Support of the MIA of Russia, the patient was taken to the above hospital. On 26 August officer B. underwent surgery.
Currently the patient remains in hospital and the staff members of the High Commissioner’s Office are following termination of his treatment.
