On 17 June, with support of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, the right of a journalist, Yuri Mukhin, to competent legal assistant was restored. Lawyer Alexei Chernyshev was given access to his client and the case on the rejection of the lawyer was closed by the Khamovnichesky District Court of Moscow.
Following the complaint of Yuri Mukhin against violation of his constitutional right to competent legal assistance, on 11 February 2016 the High Commissioner petitioned the Judicial Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. The High Commissioner’s petition to verify the legitimacy and feasibility of the court order to reject lawyer Alexei Chernyshev, who had been representing interests of accused Yuri Mukhin, Alexander Sokolov and Valeriy Parfenov, was forwarded to be considered during the session of the Moscow City Court Presidium.
