Monument to warriors killed in Great Patriotic War restored
A monument to the warriors killed during the Great Patriotic War, located in the Village of Korotkovo, Ulyanovsk Region, was reconstructed and improved, the region’s administration replied to the appeal of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation.
On 22 May 2015, Mr K. of Ulyanovsk Region requested the High Commissioner’s Office to assist in restoring the monument to warriors having been killed during the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945). The applicant stated that in spite of the village authorities’ promises to restore the memorial by 9 May 2015, the monument remained damaged.
Earlier, on behalf of all residents of the village Mr K. filed a request to the Russian Organising Committee ‘Pobeda’ (Victory), the regional department of city development and a range of other bodies, appealing to provide the required funding. The official replies received, however, stated that there were no relevant funds to restore the monument.
