Memorial liquidation case closed
With the assistance of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia the human rights group Memorial liquidation case hearing date was changed and the group managed to amend its charter having eliminated its inconsistency with the Russian law.
On 28 January, the Supreme Court of Russia dismissed the Ministry of Justice’s claim to shut the Russian
Ella Pamfilova said she was fully satisfied with the court’s decision.
In September 2014, the Ministry of Justice filed a lawsuit to the Supreme Court of Russia to close the Memorial Society down on the grounds that the society’s charter did not conform to the Russian law on
A Ministry of Justice’s representative said "the appeal of the Commissioner for Human Rights Ella Pamfilova to postpone the reading of the case in the Supreme Court had been carefully examined in the ministry". The hearing was postponed so that the society managed to remedy the breaches.
