Housing rights of orphan restored
With assistance of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia the rights of a single mother, Ms V
In May 2015, having exhausted all available tools for protection of her rights, the former graduate of an orphanage and the single mother of a minor child addressed the High Commissioner. She alleged that since 2004, by means of various resolutions, the Petrozavodsk City Administration had been delaying the implementation of the court ruling to provide the her with priority housing. Even the birth of the child in 2007 did not facilitate the process.
As a consequence of the inspection, in July 2015 the High Commissioner submitted requests to the Head of the Republic of Karelia and the republican Prosecutor. Following the request, the City Administration drafted a new amicable agreement under which it took obligations to provide the petitioner with an apartment by 1 December 2015.
