High Commissioner obtained justice for a taxpayer
With assistance of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, justice was restored in relation to a Moscow resident who got her property tax recalculated.
Earlier, the High Commissioner received a complaint from Ms F. who alleged that Tax Inspectorate No. 15 charged property tax on her for the whole apartment she lived in, while she was an owner of a room in it. Her requests to the inspectorate to correct the error did not bring any success.
Having analysed the situation, the High Commissioner petitioned the Moscow Directorate of the Federal Tax Service to check up the allegations made by the complainant.
The inspection proved that in the period from 2011 till 2013 tax authorities used a wrong assessed value of the lady’s property. The inspectorate’s letter of reply also read that the charged tax would be recalculated and the overpayments given back to the complainant.
