High Commissioner assisted the Russians detained in Egypt
In April, citizens of the Russian Federation applied to the competent authorities with a request to find out the fate of their missing relatives. It was about 17 members of the same family, natives of the Dagestan Republic, including nine children aged 3 to 9.
On April 28, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova said she would make inquiries to the Egyptian authorities about the possible detention of residents in Cairo.
"I will certainly make a request to all the necessary authorities of Egypt to understand the real state of affairs. It will be necessary to contact relatives, learn the details of the situation. I consider it necessary to draw the attention of international bodies to this situation," — High Commissioner said.
The Federal Ombudsman addressed to the Head of the Egyptian National Human Rights Commission Mohammed Fayek.
On May 14, the Head of the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Cairo Yusup Abakarov said that Egypt deport 24 Russians from the country, whose fate had not been known for several weeks. According to the Consul, relatives have already bought tickets and in the coming days the detainees will fly away to their homeland.
