Commissioner for Human Rights in Sverdlovsk Region Tatiana Merzlyakova presented a special report on violations of citizens’ rights connected with complete repair of apartment buildings at a press conference on 25 April.

Commissioner for Human Rights in Arkhangelsk Region Lyubov Anisimova jointly with the Arkhangelsk Regional Unit of the All-Russian Public Movement ‘Mothers of Russia’ and the Lomonosov Central City Library held a charity event to collect books for persons in facilities of the Arkhangelsk Region Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.

Commissioner for Human Rights in Pskov Region Dmitry Shakhov took part in a coordination meeting of the Election Commission of Pskov Region with heads of departments of federal bodies in Pskov Region and chairpersons of territorial election commissions in the region. The meeting was devoted to the issues of preparation and carrying out of the elections on the single election day on 18 September 2016.

On 21 April, a regular release of the ‘Human Rights’ programme was aired on the Public Television of Russia channel (OTR). Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Ingushetia Dzhambulat Ozdoev and Director of the State Museum of GULAG History Roman Romanov were the programme’s guests. The release was devoted to protection of rights of citizens recognised as victims of political repressions.

On 21 April, Commissioner for Human Rights in Toms Region Elena Kartashova jointly with Prosecutor of Kirovsky District Vladislav Shumikhin visited Police Unit No. 1 of the Tomsk Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia to inspect conditions of detention of persons held in custody for administrative offences. Information on the findings will be provided to the Tomsk Department of the MIA of Russia and prosecutors.

On 19 April, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Dagestan Ummupazil Omarova participated in the conference of non-governmental organisations in Makhachkala. Following the conference results working mechanisms of cooperation between NGOs and government authorities were elaborated. They allow representatives of civil society to be rightful partners for authorities.

In April, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia held joint events with the State Museum of GULAG History. The events were devoted to human rights protection issues.

The final of the regional law competition took place in Smolensk. Commissioner for Human Rights in Smolensk Region Alexander Kapustin was one of the organisers of this contest.

On 14 April, during the round table devoted to the questions of ensuring voting rights of citizens, Commissioner for Human Rights in Krasnodar Territory Sergey Myshak and Chairman of the Election Commission in Krasnodar Territory signed a cooperation agreement.

With assistance of Commissioner for Human Rights in Novosibirsk Region Nina Shalabaeva a renovation was made in a house in the Moshkovo Working Settlement where a disabled child resides, a ramp was installed and the girl was provided with a new wheelchair.
