Tatyana Margolina: It is necessary to arrange a system of interdepartmental interaction to protect women from domestic violence
From year to year the number of "domestic" crimes in Perm region is growing. Over the past year more than 5,300 women and children have suffered from the hands of family brawlers. Why there are so many victims of domestic violence and how to deal with them. Commissioner for Human Rights in Perm Region Tatyana Margolina along with other competent specialists expressed her opinion on the pages of The Arguments and Facts.
"Unfortunately, there is no comprehensive approach in the region to protection of women from domestic violence. At the same time, the problem itself is latent. Today women are left
In my opinion, it is necessary to organise the same system of case management, which is applied to protect the minors: a chain of commissions and institutions that escort children at risk. Today, we are tragically out of women’s refuges. Theoretically, each regional center should be a place where women could seek advice and assistance. I think nonprofit and private sectors in the form of public projects implementation could participate in the creation of such refuges. Besides, we once had such similar successful experience as Katerina Private Centre.
I would like to underline that today the task is to arrange interdepartmental interaction to protect women from domestic violence in Perm region, as well as to support elderly women who are not taken care of by their relatives. Hopefully, this year we will take first real steps to establish such a system."
