Social integration and support for disabled people discussed in Novosibirsk Region

Last week, a round table «Social Integration and Support for People with Disabilities in the Novosibirsk Region: Problems and Solutions» was held. The event was initiated by the regional Commissioner for Human Rights Nina Shalabaeva with the participation of representatives of the regional executive bodies of state power, the Legislative Assembly, local self-government bodies, public organizations, universities and the media.

According to Nina Shalabaeva, in 2016, she received 198 applications from the disabled, in 2017 — 111 (as of October 25). Citizens with disabilities applied on different issues, the main ones were related to the violation of constitutional rights in the social sphere: 138 out of 198 applications in 2016 and 67 out of 111 applications in 2017.

Then the participants of the meeting were addressed by the chairman of the Novosibirsk regional organization «The All-Russian Association of Persons with Disabilities» Igor Gall-Savalskiy. He dwelled on the issues of interaction in providing rehabilitation for disabled people.

The participants discussed the problems voiced by the speakers and decided to establish a Working Group chaired by the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Novosibirsk Region to summarize the proposals and prepare recommendations on the results of the round table.

In conclusion, Nina Shalabaeva thanked the speakers and participants for their concern towards these important issues that are urgent not only for the residents of the region, but for the whole country. She expressed her hope that by joint efforts and with the constructive interaction of all interested representatives of power structures and civil society, the Recommendations prepared on the basis of the round table would soon find a worthy application not only as interesting proposals on a piece of paper but can help real people.
