Saratov Commissioner inspected respect for rights of patients in mental hospital

On November 8, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Saratov Region Tatiana Zhurik visited the Regional Clinical Mental Hospital of Sacred Sophia.
The head physician of the hospital showed the ombudsperson the territory of the institution, reported on the material and technical equipment of the hospital. The Commissioner examined the gerontological, narcological and other departments of the medical institution, talked to the patients and the staff. Tatiana Zhurik did not receive any complaint of the quality of medical care and nutrition. According to the head of the organizationl, the hospital currently does not lack staff and is fully provided with necessary medications.
The Commissioner noted the good organization of the institution’s work and the qualification of medical personnel. At the same time, the survey showed that the question of the need for major maintenance of a number of buildings of the health institution still remains acute.
According to the Commissioner, taking into account the fact that the regional mental hospital is the only institution that serves the territory of the whole region, as well as performs such important public functions as conducting forensic psychiatric and military examinations, capital improvement and allocation of budgetary funds for these purposes is an urgent necessity.
