Regional Commissioner met Head of the Republic of Ingushetia

On May 2, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Ingushetia Dzhambulat Ozdoev met Yunus-bek Yevkurov, Head of the Republic.

In the course of the meeting, Dzhambulat Ozdoev described the dynamics of citizens’ appeals in the first quarter of 2017 and the high priority measures on the implementation of the program of the Council on the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights affiliated to the Head of the Republic of Ingushetia.

Besides, the regional ombudsman reported that during the period under review, the Commissioner had received 452 applications from citizens that was three times as many as previous year. According to Dzhambulat Ozdoev, the increase of the number of applicants was partly related to the display of information sheets containing information and contact details for application to the Commissioner in places of mass gathering of citizens.

The ombudsman outlined that most applications were related to the violation of human rights by law enforcement officers, of the right to a favourable environment as well as of labour and pension rights.

In his turn, Yunus-bek Yevkurov pointed out that it was necessary to further the development of civil public institutions in the Republic and to form favourable conditions for the appearance of new public organizations and for the cooperation with them.
Also, the Head of the Republic of Ingushetia recommended maintaining relationships with similar Councils on Human Rights and Civil institutions in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and in the Chechen Republic to immediately resolve the arising questions.

In conclusion, the parties discussed the changes in the membership of the Public Monitoring Commission of the Republic of Ingushetia and the work of the Expert Council under the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation.
