This week, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Kursk Region Vladimir Firsov took part in a round table devoted to the problems of the visually impaired.
The event was attended by a large number of participants and guests, including members of the regional organization of the
The participants summed up the recent «White cane» action, which was completed some time ago and already became traditional for Kursk, and discussed the most acute issues of an accessible environment for the disabled.
Nowadays, the main problem of blind people is inadequate adaptation of the transport and social infrastructure for their needs.
There are difficulties with providing the blind with guide dogs, which by law are classified as technical means of rehabilitation of a disabled person. Solving these problems requires systematic work and is often hampered by a lack of money.
As a result of the round table, it was decided together with the members of the Society of the Blind to conduct a joint survey of traffic lights in the near future.
