Protection of disabled people rights discussed in Arkhangelsk Region

On May 10, there was a meeting of the Expert Council under the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Arkhangelsk Region Lyubov Anisimova concerning the problem of disabled people rights’ protection.
The participants of the event discussed draft laws prescribing the creation and functioning of the Service on the Protection of rights of psychiatric institutions patients as well as the problems of disabled people rights enforcement. According to the regional ombudsman, this category of citizens is in the vulnerable social and legal position and it needs therefore more attention to be paid to.
The members of the Expert Council supported the idea to create the Service on the Protection of patients’ rights under the Commissioner. Besides, they noted that patients need protection in questions concerning the realization of property, housing and labour rights.
In conclusion, the experts outlined that it is necessary to improve legislative norms concerning the establishment and exercise of child welfare.
