Observance of citizens’ electoral rights

On 28 July, a regular release of the ‘Human Rights’ programme dedicated to the electoral rights was aired on the Public Television of Russia channel (OTR).
The programme’s guests, Commissioner for Human Rights in Yaroslavl Region Sergey Baburkin, spoke about the start of election campaign 2016 and the changes the voters would face. According to the Commissioner, everything has been being done at the federal and regional levels in order to let citizens fully exercise their constitutional right to elect and to be elected.
The elections to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and number of municipal elections will be held in Yaroslavl Region on the single election day. The Commissioner and the regional Election Commission have already started to work together to prevent violations of the rights of citizens in this area.
A hotline on issues of observance of electoral rights of citizens was launched in Yaroslavl Region. The new forms of cooperation in the information space are being worked out. Several releases of the Commissioner’s programme will be devoted to the protection of the electoral rights. The Chairperson of the regional Election Commission will take part in these programmes.
