On the eve of the International Human Rights Day, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin met with public assistants of the regional Commissioner, representatives of human rights organizations, scientists and experts.

In his welcoming speech Farid Mukhametshin noted that the protection of human rights is a priority of all the fundamental documents at all times.

Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Tatarstan Saria Saburskaya also addressed the delegates. She noted that public assistants in every municipality carry out large-scale work with the population: they weekly receive citizens (from January to October 2017 they got more than a thousand appeals), take part in various commissions in municipalities, and conduct educational activities.

According to Saria Saburskaya, deputies of the State Council actively participate in the work on the consideration of citizens' appeals. This year, the Commissioner’s Office in the Republic of Tatarstan, in conjunction with the women deputies' association «Mercy», organized two telephone hotlines on the enrolment of children in the first grade of primary school and organization of summer holidays.

Saria Saburskaya stressed that in modern Russia, issues related to the participation of human rights institutions that are not authorities in the activities on ensuring and protecting human and civil rights and freedoms, are becoming increasingly relevant. The Tatarstan Commissioner is a permanent partner of the republican non-profit organizations.

The leaders of non-profit human rights organizations also delivered the speeches in which they shared their experience in implementing measures to protect human rights and spoke about the problems that, in their opinion, require decisions as a matter of priority.
