Krasnodar NCO’s inclusion in foreign agents registry inspection in progress

Following the appeal of the human rights commissioner in Krasondar Territory, the prosecutor will inspect if the Krasnodar Regional Public Organisation of University Graduates’ inclusion in the registry of non-commercial organisations functioning as foreign agents has been legitimate.

For this purpose, in December last year the regional human rights commissioner Sergey Myshak applied to the Prosecutor’s Office of Krasnodar Territory and also sent a request to the Ministry of Justice’s regional department to inform him about the grounds on which the said organisation was included in the foreign agents registry.

Earlier, mass media informed that the justice of the peace had refused to consider the case of the organisation which the Ministry of Justice claimed to fine for "political activity" being executed while the NCO had been unregistered in the relevant list.

The regional commissioner is about to keep the situation in check and to take part in the corresponding court hearing on 2 February 2015.

For reference

The Krasnodar Regional Public Organisation of University Graduates was founded in 1999 by graduates from institutes of higher education in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and Krasnodar residing in Krasnodar Territory. The organisation deals with protection of rights and interests of its members, as well as assists to the formation of civil society implementing non-profit projects and educational programmes for the local community.

Among the projects there are Anti-Corruption Civil Forum of Krasnodar Territory, Involving Citizens to Volunteering, Ethnocultural Historic Cycle Quest ‘The City of a Hundred of Peoples’, Public Involvement in Environment Protection and others.

The Ministry of Justice has forcibly included the organisation in the "foreign agents" registry in late December 2014.
