On April 27, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Tula Region Galina Fomina provided regional parliamentarians with a report on the observance of human rights and freedoms in 2016 and commented a number of topical human rights issues.

In the course of the event, Galina Fomina said that compared to 2015 the number of appeals to the Office of the High Commissioner increased by 35 percent in 2016.

According to the regional ombudsman, there was a serious increase in the number of collective appeals concerning the sphere of housing and utility infrastructure. «Citizens still have a lot of questions on the inadequate work of management companies and resource organizations, on the set-up and exploitation of metering devices, on the participation in the program of capital repair of apartment buildings», Galina Fomina outlined.

Also, the Commissioner noted that as for labour rights, most appeals were related to the problem of backdated wages at the time of the employer’s bankruptcy proceeding.

In conclusion, Galina Fomina thanked regional parliamentarians for effective cooperation and answered the topical human rights questions.
