Experience of summer camps for children with developmental disabilities in Chelyabinsk Region
In July 2016, two sessions for children with autism and other developmental disorders were held within the framework of the programme ‘Special Families. Unlimited Life’ with assistance of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Chelyabinsk Region.
Children from 20 families opened a new world of strangers, new places and unknown situations. A short daily schedule included sport games, adventure games, workshops, choral singing and even hippotherapy classes.
“I strongly hope that the practice of organisation of the summer recreation for families raising disabled children will become quite common, more scale and available. I would like to believe that more places for country recreation will be adapted for children with disabilities where they will be able to spend summer holidays together with healthy counterparts,” Commissioner for Human Rights in Chelyabinsk Region Margarita Pavlova said.
