Ecological situation in Leningrad region improved
Thanks to the help of Commissioner for Human Rights in Leningrad Region Sergey Shabanov, a breeding factory has been punished for illegal disposal of manure. The Krasnoarmeisky Breeding Factory, CJSC was fined and obliged to utilise wastes of cattle.
At the end of April, a resident of the village of Yablonevka, Priozersky Ddistrict, complained to Sergey Shabanov. She said that workers of the local breeding factory disposed wastes right on the shores of the lake, close to the dwellings. Living conditions in the village are rough and even dangerous to health, but the factory administration has not addressed any complaints of the residents. Petitions to the local administration, public prosecution office and Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing were useless.
The Commissioner for Human Rights asked the Prosecutor of the Leningrad Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor’s Office and the Chairman of the Regional Committee of the State Ecological Supervision to conduct an inspection and to take vigorous actions to address the issues.
In June residents of the village gratefully informed the Commissioner that the situation has been resolved. Lots of violations related to the disposal of wastes have been detected in the breeding factory. The factory was obliged to pay a penalty and to eliminate the illegal dump within a month.
