On 9 February, Commissioner for Human Rights in Sverdlovsk Region Tatiana Merzlyakova presented her 2015 Annual Report to the Regional Legislative Assembly.

Presenting the report, Tatiana Merzlyakova spoke about main outcomes of her activity as the Commissioner and problems faced by her in 2015. She also gave some statistics on complaints received last year. Thus, for example, over 40 percent of complaints were related to violation of the right to healthcare and medical assistance, as well as the right to housing, to labour, and pension rights.

Following the consideration of the report, Chairperson of the Legislative Assembly of Sverdlovsk Region Lyudmila Babushkina said that the regional institution of the human rights commissioner had been entirely accomplishing its functions related to the protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms. The members of the Assembly adopted a decision to publish the report in a local official newspaper.
