The event took place on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Altai Territory and the 15th anniversary of the adoption of the regional law on the Commissioner for Human Rights.
The conference was attended by heads of government agencies of the region, representatives of the scientific community and members of public organizations. Commissioners from the Siberian Federal District also came to the capital of the Altai Territory in order to share their experience in protecting human rights and freedoms.
During his speech, Boris Larin focused on the issues of competence, effectiveness and consistency in the activities of the institution of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Altai Territory, stating the need to update the «Concept of the protection of human rights and freedoms in the Altai Territory» in accordance with the dynamics of the development of modern legislation.
"It is necessary to adapt the Concept to modern conditions, to increase its relevance in society. First of all, it should help heads, state and municipal officials understand their role in the implementation of human and civil rights and freedoms," the Commissioner said.
