Altai Commissioner assessed detention conditions of aliens subject to deportation

17 July 2015

On 15 July, Commissioner for Human Rights in Altai Territory Boris Larin inspected the Special Accommodation Centre (SUVSIG) of the Federal Migration Service Directorate in Altai Territory, where 40 citizens of Armenia, Georgia, Israel, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan were awaiting their deportation from Russia.

The main problem faced today is a lack of the federal funding of the Federal Plaintiffs’ Service Directorate in Altai Territory for the purpose of aliens’ deportation arrangements. Mr Larin is about to report this problem to High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Ella Pamfilova.

According to the accommodation centre’s director, the situation leads to a risk of overcrowding in the facility, while extension of the detention terms might result in the loss of control over the situation, since more than half the detainees are re-offenders of law. In addition, each extra day of their detention in the centre costs the state few thousands roubles.
