On 8 July, a two-day working visit of High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova to Kemerovo Region ended.

Within the framework of the visit, the High Commissioner met with Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Siberian Federal District Nikolai Rogozhkin and Acting Governor of Kemerovo Region Aman Tuleev.

Following the discussion, some housing issues of those Kemerovo residents who addressed the High Commissioner were efficiently solved.

On 7 July, Ms Pamfilova took part in the meeting of the Coordination Council of Human Rights Commissioners in the Siberian Federal District’s Territorial Entities of the Russian Federation. The ensuring of social rights of Siberian regions’ residents was the key subject of the discussion. In particular, the participants discussed rehousing from dilapidated and dangerous buildings, problems with public utilities, protection of vulnerable social groups, provision of special medical aid and accessible free-of-charge legal advice.

The High Commissioner also met with members of the Public Monitoring Commission in Kemerovo Region and visited the region’s socially important facilities.

In addition, a staff member of the High Commissioner’s Office visited the Correctional Facility No. 44 of the Kemerovo Region General Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia to verify the information about some violations. The information was not confirmed.
