On April 14, Tatiana Moskalkova presented the Report on the Activities of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation for 2020 at the plenary session of the Federation Council.

The federal ombudswoman summed up the results of the difficult 2020 year for human rights. The pandemic has created fundamentally different challenges for the ombudspersons and states around the world, having a tremendous impact on the entire spectrum of human rights and freedoms.

Tatiana Moskalkova spoke about dealing with complaints, the most sensitive human rights issues of 2020, international cooperation and human rights education, and also presented the main results of the activities for 5 years, including an increase in the number of successfully resolved appeals by 6 times.

The High Commissioner also noted the high importance of interaction between the institution of state human rights protection and the upper chamber of the Russian parliament, which had become a powerful tool in protecting the rights of Russian citizens.

One of the most important achievements of interaction between the federal ombudsperson and the Federation Council has been the adoption of the first ever law on the Сommissioners for Human Rights in the Constituent Entities of the Russian Federation, which has laid the foundation for a unified system throughout Russia.

In conclusion, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko and the senators expressed gratitude to Tatiana Moskalkova for constructive and effective cooperation in the field of human rights.
