Tatiana Moskalkova participated in Russian-Turkish seminar of Ombudsmen

On October 16, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova and Chief Ombudsman of the Republic of Turkey Seref Malcoc held a joint Russian-Turkish seminar on the exchange of best practices «Analysis of the powers and activities of both institutions, including international cooperation» in Antalya.

Within the framework of the event, the Ombudsmen spoke about the functions and peculiarities of their institutions, exchanged experience and best practices of human rights activities, and outlined a strategy for further joint work.

In her welcoming address, Tatiana Moskalkova thanked Seref Malcoc and her Turkish colleagues for the warm welcome and noted the importance of international cooperation for ensuring the protection of citizens’ rights.

"It is remarkable that we continue to cooperate with Chief Ombudsman of the Republic of Turkey Seref Malcoc in the conditions of restoring interstate relations and lifting a number of bans and restrictions by the President of the Russian Federation and the decisions of the Government of the Russian Federation," she said.

During the meeting, a broad human rights agenda was discussed, in which, in particular, several specific cases on the restoration of violated rights of Russian citizens were included.

Among them was the case of Zarina Albegonova, whose husband, a citizen of Turkey, had separated her from her child.

Within the framework of the meeting, the sides exchanged the best practices of the Ombudsmen’ and their Offices’ work, ways to protect the rights of citizens in Russia and Turkey, and also raised the issue of the establishment of the Eurasian Alliance of Ombudsmen.

"Of course, a lot of work has already been accomplished, but much remains to be done! It is very important not only to promote the idea of human rights protection at the national and regional levels, but also on the international platform," Tatiana Moskalkova said.
