On June 7, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova participated in the plenary session of the Council of judges of the Russian Federation in a videoconferencing mode.
During the event, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Lebedev summed up the work of the Department in the conditions of restrictions related to the spread of the coronavirus, and also spoke about new forms of justice developed during the pandemic.
The High Commissioner attached importance to the initiative of the Supreme Court to expand the institution of criminal misconduct.
According to the Report on the activities of the federal ombudswoman for 2019, «only the proliferation of the institute of criminal misconduct for minor and moderate crimes in the sphere of economy, which were committed for the first time and were not related to the use of violence, allows to apply the institute of criminal misconduct to more than 100,000 people».
Chairman of the Council of judges of the Russian Federation Victor Momotov focused on the administration of justice in the conditions of information technology development.
The federal ombudswoman noted the importance of interaction between the High Commissioner’s Institute in Russia and the judicial community in the sphere of protection of citizens ' rights.
«For the High Commissioner’s Institution, the perspective directions of the judicial system improvement developed by the Supreme Court are extremely important, they will help to increase the level of guarantees of human and civil rights and freedoms», Tatiana Moskalkova said.
