Responsibility for investigation into assault and battery case of Memorial lawyer taken by interior officials of Dagestan

This was announced on 6 February by the republic’s Minister of the Interior Abdurashid Magomedov in his reply to the official appeal of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia.

Earlier in her letter of appeal Ms Pamfilova requested the minister to organise an efficient investigation into the offence committed in relation to the lawyer of the Memorial Human Rights Centre, Murad Magomedov, and to take all necessary measures to ascertain and detain all persons involved in the battery.

For reference: the lawyer was attacked on 4 February nearby the Supreme Court of Dagestan’s premises, during the break in the case where he had been representing the defendant. At present, Mr Magomedov remains in the Central Hospital of Makhachkala in grave condition.
