Monument to victims of political repressions – open concept development contest launched

On 12 February 2015, a contest for development of a concept of an architectural and sculptural composition ‘Monument to Victims of Political Repressions’ in Moscow was launched.

The contest being conducted upon initiative of the public is of open character and consists of two stages. All architects, artists, sculptors and designers are welcome to participate. The contest is organised by the Department of Culture of Moscow and operated by the State Museum of GULAG HistoryThe jury and the expert council are to involve specialists of architecture, design, history, literature, culture and public activity.

Applications should be submitted in e-form at konkurs.gmig.ru till 5 May 2015. From 22 May the new building of the GULAG Museum will host an exhibition of the submitted projects. The winner is to be announced on 30 October 2015 — the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions. Financial reward is also provided for (winner — 350 ths, 2nd place — 300 ths, 3rd — 250 ths roubles correspondingly).

The monument of the prize-winning project will be constructed in the centre of Moscow — at the crossing of Academician Sakharov prospect and the Garden Ring avenue.
