Meeting with representatives of Vietnam

On November 28, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova held a meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese delegation led by member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and the Standing committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Thanh Hai.

The meeting participants discussed topical issues in the field of protecting the rights of citizens in the territories of both states, exchanged experience in human rights activities, and outlined a strategy for further bilateral cooperation.

Tatiana Moskalkova told the representatives of Vietnam about the institute and the directions of the Russian Ombudsman’s activities, stressing the importance of international cooperation for ensuring the rights of citizens abroad.

In turn, Nguyen Thanh Hai noted that the experience of the Russian High Commissioner will be useful for raising the level of human rights protection in Vietnam, since there is no centralized human rights institution in the territory of their state yet.

"In Vietnam there is no Ombudsman for Human Rights yet. Many governmental bodies, including our Committee, are engaged in the protection of the rights of citizens," - said Nguyen Thanh Hai.

During the discussion of areas of bilateral cooperation, Tatiana Moskalkova paid special attention to the protection of the rights of tourists.

"In recent years mutual tourism has been developing effectively for us, and this can rise issues related to the rights of Russian citizens in Vietnam or Vietnamese citizens in Russia. Maybe we should consider a project to improve the guarantees of the rights of tourists on your and our territory. It is very important that they have a memo so that they know where to go for help, except the consulate. This will be the first contribution to the development of our relations," - the High Commissioner said.

In addition, Tatiana Moskalkova stressed the need to increase citizens' awareness of their rights and invited representatives of Vietnam to organize a joint educational project for these purposes.

In turn, Nguyen Thanh Hai welcomed Tatiana Moskalkova’s initiative. "Thank you for your offer. After the trip, I will certainly report to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly and other bodies, and we will start developing the relevant documents," - she said.
