On 23 April, Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Ella Pamfilova met with representatives of the Council of Europe.

Director General of the Directorate General of Human Rights and the Rule of Law Philippe Boillat, Director of Human Rights Christos Giakoumopoulos, Head of the Human Rights Policy and Co-operation Department Mikhail Lobov, Co-Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Efficient Public Monitoring of Penitentiaries in Russia Project Markus Jaeger took part in the meeting.

During the meeting, the parties discussed basic directions of cooperation between the Human Rights Commissioner in Russia and the Council of Europe. The participants emphasised not only the importance of preserving, but also that of developing relations between Russia and the Council of Europe.

In addition, prospects for development of the Public Monitoring Commissions in the Russian Federation Project were outlined, so that an agreement on it is to be signed in the near future.
