On 10 August, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova met with President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.
The parties efficiently exchanged their views on pressing issues of the human rights agenda. The High Commissioner and the President of Tatarstan outlined the areas of cooperation related to protection of rights and lawful interests of people in the republic.
Moreover, Tatiana Moskalkova raised the issues which had been addressed to her by representatives of the local human rights organisations the day before on 9 August. In particular, she touched upon the conditions of holding of people in special temporary accommodation centres for foreign nationals (SUVSIGs), and hard access to children’s closed institutions. Besides, the issues of medical service and employment of the disabled were also mentioned.
The High Commissioner addressed to Rustam Minnikhanov with a request to consider the problems specified by the human rights defenders and to provide assistance and support to them.
The High Commissioner and the President of Tatarstan met with members of the Board of the Ombudsman Association of Asia and discussed the human rights problems that require interaction with international colleagues. Rendering assistance to Asian countries’ and Russian nationals who found themselves in hardships beyond the borders of their countries, problems of visa and migration policy were among the subjects discussed at the meeting.
On the same day Tatiana Moskalkova held a meeting with Prosecutor of the Republic of Tatarstan Ildus Nafikov. They discussed the pressing problems of human rights protection at all stages of the trial and issues of interaction between the prosecutor’s office and the human rights commissioners’ institution.
