Meeting with laureates of competition “Protection of disabled persons’ rights”

On April 23, the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation met with laureates of the III All-Russian Inter-University Legal Competition «Protection of disabled persons’ rights».

The event was organized in the framework of cooperation between the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation and Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL). Tatiana Moskalkova welcomed the laureates and stressed the relevance of the issues under discussion.

Representatives of the Office of the High Commissioner told the guests about the activity of the federal and regional ombudspersons and in particular, the protection of the rights of disabled persons.

Participants of the meeting asked the employees a lot of questions that affected, among other things, payment for parking spaces in big cities, protection of doctors' rights, employment, support and training for disabled people, as well as the importance to create accessible environment in the institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service. Special attention was given to sanctions against the medicines importing from hostile countries in complex geopolitical context. In the opinion of the guests of the event, if this measure comes into effect, the quality of life of disabled persons with chronic diseases will seriously worsen.

Students with disabilities from all constituent entities of the Russian Federation under the auspices of the Commission on Social Legislation of the Law Society of Russia, took part in the competition. The III All-Russian Inter-University Legal Competition «Protection of disabled persons’ rights» was held from February 1 to April 23, 2018, by Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL) together with the All-Russian Society of the Deaf.
