Meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden

On November 24, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Russian Federation Peter Ericson.

During the meeting Tatiana Moskalkova told Peter Erickson about the institution of the Russian ombudsperson and the main activities of the state human rights defender.

In addition, the participants discussed a wide range of issues relevant to Russia and Sweden: the regulation of non-profit organizations’ activities and the law on «foreign agents», the establishment of detention terms for suspects in committing a crime, the perusal of citizens’ electronic communications, and the migration issue which is acute for European countries.

The High Commissioner also noted the high level of human rights protection in Sweden and stressed the importance of international cooperation for the effective protection of the rights of citizens who migrate, travel or work in the territory of foreign states.

In turn, Peter Ericson said that the work of Tatiana Moskalkova as an ombudsman, including in the field of interaction with civil society, was highly appreciated by the foreign human rights community.
