Meeting of the Rector's Office of the Swiss Academy for International Law held in the Office of the High Commissioner

On July 21, in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, an in-person meeting of the Administration of the Swiss Academy for International Law, which cooperates with leading universities in Russia, took place.

The event was attended by High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Nikolaevna Moskalkova, co-chairman of the Russian Lawyers Association Sergey Vadimovich Stepashin, rector of the Moscow State Law Academy named after O. E. Kutafina Victor Vladimirovich Blazheev, rector of the Swiss Academy for International Law Alexey Alexandrovich Klishin and other representatives of the scientific community.

In her speech, Tatiana Moskalkova noted the importance of ensuring the training of qualified legal personnel to solve the problems of international cooperation, and also suggested creating a master’s program «International Protection of Human Rights» on the basis of the Swiss Academy for International Law.

In addition, the federal ombudswoman came up with an initiative to use the platform of the Ombudsman for the internship of students, to provide an empirical basis of the Office of the High Commissioner for the compilation of textbooks, holding seminars and trainings, as well as to launch cooperation in the field of education within the framework of the Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance.

During the meeting, questions were raised about the work of the admissions campaign in 2020, the preparation of joint master’s programs, agreements of the Swiss Academy for International Law with partner universities, and the development of international cooperation. Sergey Stepashin noted the importance and necessity of this program for training of legal personnel in Russia.

The participants of the event also voiced their proposals for improving the educational system. Many noted the need to improve the level of language training of students, Alexey Klishin advised when recruiting to the academy to conduct testing to assess the knowledge of applicants.

Director of RANEPA Igor Bartsits pointed out the weak development of sports law in Russia and suggested creating a sports rights program at the experimental level, and also put forward the idea of elaborating a master’s degree in the development of the institution of family, the position of women in society and the protection of children.

At the end of the meeting, the event participants thanked Tatiana Moskalkova for her hospitality and expressed hope for further close cooperation.
