Medical specialists from Germany examined Nadezhda Savchenko

On 16 February, the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia assisted German specialists in carrying out medical examination of the Ukrainian servicewoman Nadezhda Savchenko. The German doctors assessed the health status of Ms Savchenko as satisfactory.

During the medical board meeting after the examination, "foreign specialists assessed the state of Nadezhda Savchenko’s health as satisfactory, noted the professional approach and completeness of her diagnostics and treatment measures in conditions of the FPS medical unit’s hospital," the FPS reports. Later both parties exchanged opinions on further tactics of the patient management, having noted that the priority of psychologic work with the accused should be in termination of the ongoing hunger strike.

For reference: on 10 February 2015, the Basmanny Court of Moscow City extended the detention of Ukrainian servicewoman Nadezhda Savchenko until 13 May. The investigator has also extended the investigation period until 13 May. Ms Savchenko has been on hunger strike since 13 December 2014.
