Inspection is being held at correctional facility in Republic of Bashkortostan by Commissioner’s order
On 14 May, representatives of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia were sent to Salavat, the Republic of Bashkortostan, to inspect the maximum security penal colony No. 2.
Media reports as of 10 May on prisoners’ group disobedience led to the inspection.
In particular, media reported that over 100 prisoners refused to fulfill the requirements of administration. 12 of them barricaded themselves on the roof. Protesters called for easing the custodial control.
Currently, representatives of the federal Commissioner jointly with Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Bashkortostan Rim Kayumov check reports on violations and accept the prisoners’ complaints.
